The International Research Partnership on Cinema Techniques and Technology (TECHNÈS) aims to rethink the history of cinema and its methods by questioning the techniques and technologies that have accompanied changes in the medium since the nineteenth century. TECHNÈS intends to carry out this ambitious program by creating an unprecedented space for dialogue between universities (Université de Lausanne, Université de Montréal and Université Rennes 2), film schools (La Fémis, ÉCAL and INIS), university publishing houses (Amsterdam University Press and Les Presses de l’Université de Montréal) and member institutions of the International Federation of Film Archives (the Cinémathèque française, the Cinémathèque québécoise, the Swiss Film Archive and the George Eastman Museum).
TECHNÈS’ director André Gaudreault is also the founder of the Laboratoire CinéMédias, which oversees the Canadian section of the partnership. The director of the Laboratoire CinéMédias, Santiago Hidalgo, is a member of the TECHNÈS Scholarly Committee. For more information, visit the TECHNÈS website.
