Call for papers - International Student Symposium of the cinEXmedia Partnership

The cinEXmedia partnership invites you to submit a communication proposal for the cinEXmedia partnership's International Student Symposium "Contributing to well-being in the age of screens: an intersectoral approach between film studies, health sciences and social sciences," which will be held on Friday, October 4th, 2024, at the Université de Montréal.

To ensure the sustainability of research in cinematography and media, it is crucial to examine the pervasive influence of screens in our daily lives. An integrated approach that combines academic reflection with field research is necessary to bridge the gaps between media and reception studies, health sciences, and the human and social sciences. By exploring our interactions with screens from various perspectives, we can gain a comprehensive and an inclusive understanding of the societal, educational, and therapeutic implications of the cinematic experience. The cinEXmedia partnership aims to connect researchers from diverse disciplines. This collaborative approach enables us to anticipate the evolving role of film and media studies in a rapidly changing world, fostering the development of visual content that caters to a wide range of audiences and reception contexts.

During this student symposium, the next generation of researchers is invited to present their work, which seeks to provide the knowledge, tools, and resources necessary to enhance the cinematic experience. This includes addressing its cognitive, neurological, psychological, physical, cultural, aesthetic, and technological dimensions.

Participation is limited to graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, but is open to various disciplines, including international participants. We encourage communications in person, in room C-3061 at the Lionel-Groulx pavilion at the Université de Montréal, but there will be the possibility of presenting by videoconference for participants who are unable to be on site.

The organizing committee invites interested people to submit an oral communication proposal.

  • Oral presentations can be in the form of a presentation or a round table.
  • Presentations may relate to research-creation work.

To apply for oral presentations, please provide:

  • A summary of your presentation (500 words at most);
  • A short biography of the participants;
  • 3 to 5 keywords related to the theme of communication;
  • Special technical requests for the presentation;
  • For research-creation projects, an overview of the artistic work that will be presented.

The application is made by email, to the address cinexmedia@labocinemedias.ca, before September 9th, 2024.
