Using a resolutely technical approach, attentive as much to the tools and gestures as to the discourses that accompany them, this book aims to show how a series of assembly operations, scattered both in the chronology and in the space of the post-production process of so-called silent films, and acquiring different values and statuses over the years, ends up constituting an autonomous phase of this process, which crystallizes, before its conceptualization, in the notion of editing.
