Laboratoire CinéMédias, located in the Cinema Studies and Art History department at the University of Montreal, was founded in 2016 by professor André Gaudreault thanks to the obtainment of the Canada Research Chair in Cinema and Media Studies and a Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) grant. The research lab is home to several projects and research structures, including the Programme de recherche sur l’archéologie et la généalogie du montage/editing (PRAGM/e), the Groupe de recherche sur l’avènement et la formation des identités médiatiques (GRAFIM, formerly known as GRAFICS), the International Research Partnership on Cinema Technology (TECHNÈS), the Programme de recherche sur l’expérience cinématographique (PREC) and l’Observatoire du cinéma au Québec (OCQ). The Lab is directed by Santiago Hidalgo as of 2018.
